Theme of the Show

Teaching journalism in the 21st century. We'll focus on the journalism program at Palo Alto High School, one of the largest and most successful high school journalism programs in the country
 

The Guests

Esther Wojcicki, who founded the PAHS journalism program about 20 years ago, and built it into what it is today.  She's been a professional journalist, blogs regularly for the Huffington Post, and was awarded the Gold Key by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in 2009 for her outstanding devotion to the school press. Her other claim to fame is that she is the mother-in-law of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who is married to her daughter Anne.
Paul Kandell is a journalism teacher at PAHS and has also worked as a professional journalist. He was named 2009 National Journalism Teacher of the Year by the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, and is a board member of the Journalism Education Association of Northern California.
